5. Maya's Protest

"Well, I think we're finally making progress. You seem to be becoming a little more coherent, at least. The Wizard must be losing his grip over your Words. I must say, it's an interesting way to remember the Beginning...but at least I wasn't a witch then, although this blind omnipotent Seer you're making me is a little hard to live up to. For one thing, I've got to get dinner going, and I'd rather see the pots and pans right now rather than this blinding aural path reaching towards Forever... Don't get me wrong, IT's why we're both here. But there's a place and time for everything -- Even the Plan has to be put on the shelf now and then as we struggle to live day to day...

"But then you could make it a little easier on me. If you'd only do something about this wretched little shack we've been stuck with. I know, it's a fairy-tale hut, an oasis of hope deep within the Woods of Doubt...But it's a little too rustic for me. I mean, could we get some indoor plumbing, and I wouldn't mind air conditioning, while you're at it. It's awfully hot when you go away..."

"WARDEN, welcome whom we worship with whispering wistful wishes while we Word with whom we Word..."

"No, Ward, don't listen to that voice. Leave the Wizard to his wizardry. Don't go to him. His Words are tempting, but they're twisting it all up. They're only making it harder for you to See. Please, stay with me. Me, Maya. Remember I found you, and I'm the one you always come back to. Please, stay and Learn with me, please, Ward...Don't go..."

"Ward...Ward...it's me, Max. Can he come out to play, Maya. I'll bring him back for dinner. Ward...Ward...one, two, three, Ward, Ward, one, two, three..."

"Go away, all of you. Can't you see what you're doing to him. Ward, stay with Maya. We've got so far to go and I'm so lonely when you're gone............. .............................................................................................

"Go with Max, Ward. But leave the Wizard's Words behind. Have fun playing in the Mundane, but hurry home for dinner, please..."
