Today's
Better World Team story fragment, reflection or sketch...
Countdown
to the
Better World Roadtrip!
The
Countdown for the launch of The Better World Roadtrip
has officially begun!
And it's about time…I've been daydreaming about starting
this journey for 20 years. Over the years those daydreams
have found their way into a dozen different stories I've
scribbled down. The idea has always been basically the
same - nothing less than an uplifting personal journey
of self-discovery, and an empowering tale of communal-inspiration
and world transformation. But my daydreams about the cast
of my adventure, its mission and of course the journey
itself, well, they've been all over the map, from a travelogue-reality
show, to a buddy-film, romantic comedy of errors, or a
fantastical quest of epic proportions to save the world.
Turns out, Season One of The Better World Roadtrip is
going to be a simple roadtrip - a journey to get from
where I am to where I need to be to start the real mission
for the next chapter in my life. You see what I really
have been wanting to do even more than a roadtrip is launch
a reality show that will change the world - The Better
World Show: The Reality Show That Will Change Reality.
So this edition of the Roadtrip is really just about finding
the Team to make the Show, and finding a place to live
so that we can do it. Of course, once the roadtrip gets
underway, I'm sure it will turn out to be everything I've
daydreamed and more, because reality as they say, is often
much stranger than fiction or daydreams.
Unfortunately, before the roadtrip can even start, there's
the obligatory backstory preparations that have to be
addressed. Luckily there aren't many loose ends to tie
up before I go. Life has conveniently taken care of that.
But that's another story. And of course in the past, money
had always been another huge hurdle to surmount before
I could seriously think about transforming this daydream
into reality. But since this roadtrip is just the journey
from here to where I'm going, and I won't have to pay
to live here anymore, the budget to live during the journey's
pretty much the same as it was before, so that's not an
issue anymore.
So, the only real preparation on my to-do list is to find
someone to share the journey. Someone who'll be the star,
because (and you can admit you were thinking it) this
introspectively-broken-but-still hopeful middle-aged personality
isn't going to bring viewers to our Roadtrip youtube channel.
But seriously, how hard can it be to find just one energetic
person who wants to star in a youtube webseries about
hitting the road to find a team to change the world. Well,
there is the issue about living on the road with a total
stranger for 4 weeks, chipping in for gas and motels,
and not being paid, which I can see could be an issue
for some people. But hey, you'd get to be in on the ground
floor of a venture that could very well change the world,
armed with nothing but our creativity and a video camera
and youtube channel to start with.
So, what do you say. Are YOU up for The Better World Roadtrip?
I'm heading out soon, so let me know...

The
Better World Show
The
Reality Show That Will Change Reality
For
the past 11 years, I've been wanting to create The
Better World Show, a reality show that would inspire
action for a better world and provide a way for millions
to participate in real-time.
"The
Better World Show: The Reality Show That Would Change
Reality" would be an SNL-like variety show/reality
show that would highlight the many efforts for a better
world that are going on, often unseen, all around us,
and inspire and empower action through humor, music and
cutting-edge and engaging features.
I
have hundreds of pages of notes on skits, next steps,
a calendar of action, numerous vehicles within the Show
and tons of offshoot-ideas. So, in a last ditch effort
to try to make this happen before another 11 years go
by, I'm putting out this call to either find
a team to launch this webseries, or someone who
might be interested in writing a series of novels with
me based on this concept.
